JCB’S 30,000-SQUARE-FOOT exhibit space at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2011 featured a two-story pavilion from Specialist Structures, with a roof-top balcony, an outdoor café, a retail shop, a VIP lounge and meeting rooms, a dealer development area and high-tech video monitors.

UK-based JCB is the world’s third largest construction equipment manufacturer. It exhibits at four to eight US trade shows yearly, the largest being ConExpo, which is held every three years in Las Vegas.
Creating a show-stopping structure on a budget
This year, due to the recession, the budget was one-third of what it had been previously. Having worked with Specialist Structures before, JCB were aware of our system’s amazing design capabilities and the wow factor that could be created. This year, the challenge was to create the wow on a budget. Working with Condit, we engineered a structure which was 20,000 square-feet smaller than their previous structure, but still provided them with all the functionality they required without any compromise on the impressive impact of the final structure.
Maximum functionality built into the structure
JCB’s CEO tasked the team to sell more products at what had traditionally been a non-selling show. The structure needed to accommodate this strategy and provide a comfortable environment in which JCB staff could create sales whilst also being an enjoyable and educational space where people felt welcome to stay. We engineered a structure which enabled this with a roof-top balcony, an outdoor café, a retail shop, a VIP lounge and meeting rooms, a dealer development area and high-tech video monitors.
Creating the perfect vantage point
Using the space building system, our structure was engineered to feature three balconied tiers; a ground floor raised deck area, a first floor balcony and a roof terrace. The three viewing platforms were connected using a system of internal and external staircases which were built-in to add a central focal point in the structure design, and provided the perfect vantage point for the Dancing Diggers displays which took place hourly in the 90ft arena in front of the main structure.
Using graphics wraps
Full storey length graphics wraps were used to create a stunning visual display on the first floor balcony area. The graphics were attached directly onto the system without the need for additional fixings or rigging, saving valuable balcony space.
Roofs and canopies
The structure featured the space roofing system which not only looks contemporary and sleek, but adds structural support. It also features curved canopies which were used to wrap around the side of the structure and a larger canopy on the front to provide shade in the unrelenting Las Vegas heat. The canopies provided an important architectural design feature and enabled Condit to create an asymmetrical frontage design.

Back in October 2010, Specialist Structures won the best in show, in their category, at the Showmans Show which attracted the attention of BD Network, who wanted a small, modern structure for a series of roadshows being planned to support the launch of the Nintendo 3DS.
The small structure needed reflect this high-end, technology led brand and facilitate the creation of different internal areas like the feedback and gaming zones whilst also being quick to build and re-rig.
Engineered to perfection
Using our 
, we engineered a 10mx10m white cube which comprised of white panels combined with custom printed panels. The unique patent system design meant that the internal fit out could be attached directly onto the frame, as could the external neon lights which were a critical aspect of the event design.
Specialist Structures successfully delivered
Our flexible approach meant that we were able to work with BD network to plan the whole schedule around an unconfirmed release date. Once confirmed, we successfully delivered 6 roadshows in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich, London (Covent Garden), Plymouth, over a six week period, in some cases building through the night and to a 12 hour deadline.

Incorporating graphics into the design of your structure can help create something magical. Our enables you to incorporate graphics directly into the design of the stand without the need for any additional fixing structures.
External graphics
Use large custom printed mesh or solid graphics attached directly to the frame of the building to create a high impact finish. This can look particularly impressive on a multiple storey building with a significant drop.
Internal graphics
Create panels of display graphics, or use simple decorative panels to create a stunning interior fit out. The graphics can be attached directly to the frame, creating a sleek and attractive aesthetic.
Window graphics
Vinyl can be applied to the inside glazing to create a more subtle finish. Applied to either a section of glazing or the entire face of a structure, it allows unique design elements to be incorporated into the structure design.
Complete flexibility
Our unique gives you maximum flexibility to incorporate graphics into the structure design. We supply specially designed fixings which allow all kinds of graphics and cladding to be attached directly to the structure frame without the need for unsightly or costly additional fixings or rigging.

We’d like to thank everyone for their support of our presence at the 2010 Showman’s Show and we are thrilled to announce our winning the best in show, in our category, for the structure we used.
The award winning structure, also used to promote BMW’s new car launch at the Ryder Cup 2010, was constructed using our modular . Using architectural glass, sophisticated graphics and lighting, this incredibly versatile structure maximised our presence at the event and led to us winning the award.
Our structures can be designed to fit anything from a simple 5mx5m space up to 20mx60m area, with solid flooring, atriums, balconies, reception areas, staircases and meeting room spaces all possible.
